The name Sally’s Cycles might ring a bell. When they first opened in 1953, they set the standard for Long Island Bike shops with their friendly customer service and custom bicycle repairs. But as time went on, as with many businesses, service suffered, customers stopped goings and the good vibrations from yester year were gone.
After 62 years, Sally’s Cycles has now become The Vicious Cycle; a new trendy bike shop that prides themselves on having the same customer service as the original Sally’s.
The owner Mike Pitch is a certified bike mechanic and grew up riding his bicycle on Long Island like most suburban kids. But it wasn’t until he was in college where he realized his true passion for bicycling. In 2005, he worked part time in a bike shop and during the winter months worked part time as a courier in Brooklyn. Spending so much time in and around bikes, he naturally fell in love with them. His life’s path came clear – his dream was to own a bike shop.
One time while entering Sally’s after looking to get a part fixed, he looked around. What used to be a reputable shop was now in dismay. Without thinking about it he made an offer to the former owner. After a month of waiting, his risk paid off.
He is looking forward to establishing a new customer base and making a name for himself with The Vicious Cycle but he is keeping more than just the brick and mortar store from Sally’s. He plans on upholding their classic slogan:
“We sell the best and fix the rest!”
